Caserta History day tour

The full day excursion starts from the meeting point previously arranged with our staff. 
After the pick up your first stop will be Caserta Royal Palace.

In 1750 Charles of Bourbon decided to build the Reggia or palace, intending it to be the ideal center of the new Kingdom of Naples. The design of the impressive construction was designed by Luigi Vanvitelli. Works started in 1752 but in 1773, when Vanvitelli died, they had not been finished so other architects brought this great palace to completion.

The building has a rectangular plan with large inner courtyards. The palace has three entrances, one for carriages and two pedestrians. It is made up of 1200 rooms, 34 staircases and 1742 windows. The park that surrounds the Reggia is spectacular: fountains with jets of water, cascades, bridges and sculptures make this site one of the most important and popular tourist attractions in the region. Among the many places of recreation frequented by the Bourbons, we should mention the English garden, created for Queen Maria Carolina. It is made up of many plants coming from all around the world.

Your tour continues with the visit of San Leucio. During the Bourbon time, the king Ferdinando wanted to transform some villages with industrial installations. San Leucio was a hunting lodge and it became a “silk village” with factories dedicated to the silk production, considered a very important business at that time. It was a sort of ideal town with factories, a square, a theatre, a cathedral, an hospital and green areas. However this ideal space came to the end with the coming of French Revolution. 

After this full afternoon you will be ready to meet your driver at the meeting point for your return.
